Bloxwich squad was depleted due to injuries and unavailability in their first team squad and were only able to send 11 players over to compete in this merit league fixture. Rugeley had planty of substitutes to lend to Bloxwich and it was no surprise when Paul Blakeman was the first to volunteer.

Rugeley started the stronger with the returning Mitchell Everall combing well on the loop with back row partner Martyn Bentley to smash a wole in the Bloxwich defence and get the game to the best possible start with a try. Matthew Keys duly converted and Rugeley went into a 7-0 lead. Rugeley' scrum was dominat with good work from new player Mat Overbury and Ashley Rowley Johnson in the second row. Rugeley kept up the good work and were quickly over the try line again this time with Martn Bently smashing his way through the Bloxwich defenders and over the line to score. This time Keys was unable to convert.

Bloxwich rallied well with the intorduction of Michael WIlkes as their scrum half and showed excellent spirit in the tackle to force their way up the pitch an score in the corner.

Rugeley were determined not to let Bloxwich back in the game and Scott Reed embarked on one of his trademark runs from his own twenty two. With just the full back to beat he chipped through and looked a certainty to score only for debutant Daniel Mayle to speed past him and score a try under the posts and Rugeley into a 17-5 half time lead.

Rugeley rang the changes at half time and gave a debut to Ed Jones who slotted into the centres alongside Jamie Fraser. However it was second row Greg Archer who made the biggest impact by taking on crash ball repeatedly into and over the Bloxwich defence.

Eventually pressure told and after a Bently run Matthew Keys hit the gap on the wing and dived over to score.

Bloxwich again refused to back down and immediately replied with a clever break from Paul Blakeman who powered over to get Bloxwich back in the match.

Any hopes of a comeback were thwarted again by man of the matvh Bently who was fed by Keys to seal an emphatic 36-13 victory.
