Today was the culmination of a long season of Rugby that started way back last July with pre-season training. What we saw were as ever, moments of what potential this team possesses. The attacking play with carry the ball forward for multiple phases; strong running in support; aggressive competition for the ball; and a real determination to apply pressure. In defence they were brave; competed at every break down; applied pressure on the attacking lines and ultimately made some crunching tackles.
Throughout, Harry P showed his game awareness has continued to develop with some fantastic running lines leading to a brace of tries. Harry S showed his confidence with some strong carries into contact. Reuben was strong in defence, quick to secure the ball when needed and fearless in the rucks. Oscar's quick thinking secured ball on more than one occasion, thinking faster than the opposition. Molly worked hard out wide to make herself available for the ball and to secure it at breakdowns. Phoebe had a strong game in the scrums as well has with ball in-hand, with a breakaway down the wing nearly leading to try. Connor did a great job at making his presence felt in defence with some brave tackling and going forward, ball in hand. Kylan had a strong game with ball in hand and more than once, drew in large numbers of defenders to create space out wide. Phoebe, Connor and Kylan showed again that they are a front row to be reckoned with. TJ had another energetic morning and his determination to regain possession non-stop was great to see. Finally, Ryley had an excellent morning of rugby and whilst he was strong going forwards, it was his defence that marked him out. His tackling was superb and he made try-saving tackles on multiple occasions, in all the games. Thoroughly deserving the Rugeley Player of the Festival award.
Thank you to all of the U11 family for your support throughout the season and today. I hope you enjoyed the rugby and have tired players this evening! Enjoy your lie-in next Sunday!
